Challenges

The BBC proms are held at the Royal Albert hall which seats just under 6000 people - as a team the challenge is to complete 6000 sit to stands in a two week period. We will be raising money for the Cardiac Rehab unit at St Cross.

How much exercise should I do

The cheif medical officers guidelines talk about 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise (for instance a brisk walk) a week, if you break that down it can equate to 30 mins for 5 days, you should also look to do strength, flexibility and balance work at least twice a wee.

These are minimums and obviously more is better. If you attend a gym sessiononce a week you will cover at least 30 to 50 mins of this and one of the strength days, dependant upon your program. If you attend twice in a week you can see how this is further advanced. On the days you do notattend the gym stay active, keep moving and limit sedentary time.

About me

After starting my working life in the IT sector, I moved in to the fitness industry and around 21 years ago I decided to focus on clinical exercise, specialising in cardiac rehabilitation before moving into Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Vascular Rehabilitation, Exercise following Stroke, Postural Stability and exercise for older adults.

I also tutor and assess for a national training company specialising in Postural Stability training level 4 exercise instructors and physiotherapists who work or are going to be working with older adults at risk of falls.
